White Tea Reduces DNA Damage While Preserving Collagen And Elastin

Excitement is in the air as we learn more about what White tea will do for your skin.WhiteTea

Firstly, it protects your skin by strengthening its immune system. Did you even know your skin has an immune system? It’s true! The epidermis contains “watch dog” cells called Langerhans cells. These cells are constantly on alert for foreign agents like germs and mutated proteins that may be a pre-cursor to cancer cells. However, Langerhans cells are extremely sensitive to sunlight & over time they become destroyed by sun damage.

In a study from Case Western Reserve University, researchers applied a cream containing white tea extract to a patch of skin on each subject’s buttock. They then exposed this skin to artificial sunlight.

After just three days, skin treated with white tea extract had its Langerhans cell immunity protection properties completely restored from the sun damage caused by this artificial light exposure. In addition, the white tea extract limited DNA damage in the treated skin cells. That’s the kind of damage that promotes skin cancer, age spots and wrinkling.

downloadWhite tea also keeps skin looking younger by slowing the breakdown of collagen and elastin. Even when you’re young, collagen and elastin are breaking down all the time as a natural process. Enzymes known as “matrix metalloproteinases” (MMP) activate this breakdown. However, our young body naturally replaces collagen and elastin to repair the damage.

As you get older, this MMP breaks down collagen and elastin faster than you can replace it. Eventually this imbalance can lead to sagging skin and wrinkles. However, the good news is in the exciting research as shared above.

Researchers also found white tea inhibited MMP’s destructive action better than 20 other plant extracts tested. In fact, white tea was 3-6 times more effective than green tea at protecting collagen and elastin.

Preserve Your Skin’s Youthful Elasticity With White Tea Extract

To promote healthy, radiant skin drink 2 to 3 cups of white tea every day. It is not as popular or as well understood as green tea, but the benefits are far greater. You can find it in your health food store or online.

best-skin-womanWhite Tea can come in several flavours and there are also unflavoured white teas. Just remember that white tea contains low amounts of caffeine so if you’re sensitive, go easy. You can also apply white tea directly to your skin.

Here’s a technique I am going to share with you to apply it directly to your skin: Freeze freshly brewed white tea in ice cube trays. Rub a melting cube over your skin for a refreshing white tea toner after cleansing or washing your face.

Here’s to a more beautiful you!
