A cure for your chocolate addiction? Eat Chocolate!

Did you know that eating chocolate can actually help you reduce your craving for sweets and LOSE belly fat?

organic dark chocolateThe right kind of chocolate contains a special compound called theobromine, a wonderful compound shown to have some unique fat loss properties. It actually helps with appetite control and suppression! So you’ll likely find you crave less sweets and aren’t as hungry just by eating a square or two… two pretty solid benefits if you have a sweet tooth or not!

Moreover, theobromine has also been shown to mobilize fatty acids from fat cells to the blood stream to be burned as energy – just like caffeine – but without the stimulatory effect on the nervous system and those nasty “jittery” feelings that some people experience with caffeine.

And perhaps the biggest benefit of theobromine was discovered in a study published in The Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2005 where researchers found significant insulin sensitivity benefits associated with the naturally occurring theobromine found in high cacao dark chocolate.

Now, before you run out to grab a bar of your favourite childhood chocolate bar, stop!

I’m not talking about your typical convenience store chocolate bar here…you must look for dark chocolate that is at least 70%+ cacao (check the label). You see, dark chocolate that is more than 70% cacao is where you will find that wonderful theobromine.

daughter and grandchildrenOne of the sweetest – pardon the pun – things about this news is there are so many easy and delicious ways to introduce the right chocolate into your diet! My husband and I have just enjoyed a few days soaking up all the love with our youngest daughter and her family. We all live such full lives – but I’m big on keeping our emotional tank well fueled and I know that keeping a balance between family and work is hugely important.

But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some time for chocolate! One of my favourite no-fuss ways of enjoying some high cocoa dark chocolate is to share it with some loved ones – simply to grab a bar of raw organic chocolate, break into squares, and serve with some organic nuts, dried fruit, herbal tea – and a whole lot of love!

I nearly always have a block of chocolate in our fridge and love to indulge whenever my taste buds say so. Next time you’re in the mood for a little something sweet, grab a square of dark chocolate – and don’t feel guilty!!

Raw Organic Cacao is another great way to get the bountiful benefits of theobromine and you can get that good old chocolatey deliciousness into your diet guilt-free, just good old chocolatey deliciousness!

For me cacao is not a special occasion treat because I like to look after myself every day. In my protein smoothie each morning I blend mineralized water, organic oat or coconut milk, protein powder along with a little alkalized cacao, half banana, berries, a little coconut oil and flaxseed. I like to mix up the variety with a little acai powder, nuts or camu camu.

These Cacao Balls are another very simple way to get some raw cacao into your diet.

Cacao & Date Bliss Balls1 cup pitted Medjool dates
1/4 cup raw cacao
1/2 cup organic shredded coconut, plus extra for rolling.
1 cup raw walnuts
1 spoonful Organic coconut oil (optional)

Toss these ingredients in to a food processor and whizz until mixture is like a dough then roll into small balls. Roll into the coconut and store in fridge.

Just as important as chocolate, is always remembering to say thank-you, so thank you for your loyalty. One thing I really do enjoy doing is picking up the phone and hearing how you are going with the products. It’s so nice to hear how many of you are happy with the results that you are seeing with your skincare regime

So – Happy Wednesday to you – and enjoy that chocolate!
